Candy DNA and RNA Construction Activity
This activity is directed towards the 6th grade Science level in respect to the Ohio Education Standards. The major objective of this in-class activity is to help the students learn and reinforce the concept of the basic construction of DNA and RNA and also the pairing of the nitrogen bases associated with them: adenine, thymine, guanine, cytosine, and uracil.
The outline of this activity as stated below may be substituted with other ideas, items, or adapted for individual classrooms. We designed this activity for the use of 12 stations in each classroom with two students acting as a pair at each station.
Calculating Kinetic Energy Worksheet
The worksheet is a quick run through of calculating kinetic energy, understanding different amounts of kinetic energy, and how to increase kinetic energy.
Calculating Your Weights on Different Planets
The worksheet starts off with giving an explanation about the difference between mass and weight. It then allows students to calculate their weight in pounds and kilograms and then how much they will weigh on different planets in kilograms and pounds. It provides many examples of converting between pounds to kilograms and vice versa. The students found it really neat that they could weigh so less on one planet and so much on another.
