Overview

A simulation of a user-controlled car that can be driven around a 3D Playground. Within the playground, several cubes of different volume and mass exist. The user can crash the car into these different boxes and the simulation automatically records the force and momentum of the collision. A corresponding worksheet emphasizes Netwon’s 3 Law as well as Force = Mass X Acceleration and Momentum = Mass X Velocity.

 

Lesson Plan

Game Play:

Netwon’s 3 Laws, Force = Mass X Acceleration, and Momentum = Mass X Velocity. The students drive a lego car around a 3D virtual playground and collide with various boxes of different sizes and masses to observe the associated Forces and Momentum of the collisions.

Controls:

Go Button: Starts the Simulation

Slider Bar: Changes the simulation’s speed

Next Actor Button Switches between what the camera will follow (car, sun, earth, moon, or mars)

Camera Chase Style in which the camera tracks the rolling balls.

Show Data Button Displays the current data table of the force and momentum of all collisions.
