2014 BooKS Summer Workshop

2014 BooKS (Boat of Knowledge in Science Classroom, a NSF GK-12 project) Summer Workshop was held from July 28 to August 1. Xin Ye and Mariah presented the newly developed Winkler Method lesson plan and the corresponding 3D iPad game for high school teaching.

Our Paper was accepted to FSE 2014

Our paper “Learning to Rank Relevant Files for Bug Reports using Domain Knowledge” was accepted as a full paper to the 22nd ACM SIGSOFT International Symposium on the Foundations of Software Engineering (FSE 2014). FSE is one of the top-tier conferences in Software Engineering. The acceptance rate of FSE 2014 is 22% (61/272).

2013 BooKS Summer Workshop

2013 BooKS (Boat of Knowledge in Science Classroom, a NSF GK-12 project) Summer Workshop was held from July 22 to 26. XinYe, Yanhui, and Qing presented VBEE user study and next steps in development. Kal Jaber and Elaine Geotz demoed their 2D game on ipad.

2012 BooKS Summer Workshop and Symposium

The 2012 BooKS (NSF GK-12 The Boat-of-Knowledge in the Science Classroom) summer workshop and symposium were held from July 16 to July 20.

Xin Ye presented a new release of the Virtual Boat game and a new release of Ying Zhong’s iVirtualWorld at July 17, and presented the following direction of the Virtual Boat development. Xin Ye, Qing Zhu and Amir attended the workshop and symposium.

Virtual Boat for Environmental Education 02.25.2012 Release Notes

A new version of Virtual Boat for Environmental Education (VBEE) is released for 2012 winter quarter BooKS workshop. The latest release can be found here.

This released version provides teachers and students with “Fishkill” scenario and “Geocaching” scenario to support relevant lasson plans.

Virtual Boat for Environmental Education for iOS 01.09.2012 Release Notes

First version of Virtual Boat for Environmental Education (VBEE) for iOS is released.

What’s new in this version

  • Initial universal release  (only iPad 2 is officially supported)
  • Includes all the capabilities of the PC version (including character customization and virtual boat features)
  • Uses virtual joystick and touch controls for player and boat navigation

Virtual Boat for Environmental Education 01.09.2012 Release Notes

A new version of Virtual Boat for Environmental Education (VBEE) is released. The latest release can be found here.

What’s new in this version

  • Free navigation: you can test water qualities everywhere.
  • New GUI: Stable, simple, uniformed, and runs well in different machines with different resolutions, (high to low resolutions).
  • Only one objective icon (click it to get detailed information), no more complex objective list.
  • Only show mini map in navigation mode.
  • New data diagram with dynamic data.
  • Soundclips for interesting locations (not required to test locations following an order any more).
  • Note: the size is about 48MB, thus it may take a few minutes to load the game at the first time.
